A quick and easy game day snack featuring hot dogs coated in a spicy-sweet firecracker sauce, wrapped in flaky puff pastry, and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular beef or pork hot dogs
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or favorite hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Optional garnishes: toasted sesame seeds or finely chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine sweet chili sauce, sriracha, soy sauce, honey, and minced garlic. Stir well and adjust heat if needed.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 8 equal rectangles (about 3×4 inches).
  4. Lightly coat each hot dog with about 1 teaspoon of the firecracker sauce, covering all sides but not drenching.
  5. Place each coated hot dog diagonally on a puff pastry rectangle. Roll it up snugly, tucking the edges underneath to seal. Use water or egg wash to help the ends stick if needed.
  6. Place wrapped hot dogs seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone mat.
  7. Brush the tops with egg wash for a golden, shiny crust.
  8. Optionally sprinkle sesame seeds or chopped green onions on top.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes, turning halfway through, until puff pastry is golden and crispy.
  10. Let cool on a wire rack or plate for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm with extra firecracker sauce or favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Thaw puff pastry overnight or for 30-40 minutes until pliable but still cool for best puffiness. Avoid overloading sauce to prevent soggy pastry. Turn baking sheet halfway through for even browning. Extra firecracker sauce on the side is recommended for dipping. Can be air-fried at 375°F for 15 minutes as an alternative cooking method. Wrap edges well to avoid leakage. Store leftovers in airtight container refrigerated up to 3 days; reheat in oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes to restore crispness.
