A rich and velvety homemade shamrock shake with fresh mint extract and mini chocolate chips, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any time you want a fresh, creamy treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (480 ml) full-fat vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon fresh mint extract
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup (55 g) mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy whipping cream, whipped (optional topping)
  • A few drops green food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients and measure them out.
  2. Combine the ice cream, milk, sugar, and mint extract in your blender.
  3. Blend on medium speed for about 30 seconds or until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if too thick.
  4. Add the mini chocolate chips and pulse the blender a couple of times to mix them in without breaking them up.
  5. Add green food coloring if using and blend briefly.
  6. Pour the shake into tall glasses immediately.
  7. Whip the heavy cream to soft peaks and spoon or pipe it on top of the shake.
  8. Optional: Garnish with extra mini chocolate chips or a fresh mint leaf.

Notes

If the shake is too thin, chill in the freezer for 10 minutes to thicken. Avoid blending too long to prevent melting the ice cream. Use mini chocolate chips to avoid clogging straws and keep texture. Pure mint extract is recommended for best flavor. For dairy-free versions, substitute coconut or almond milk and dairy-free ice cream, and use coconut whipped cream.
