Cozy Campfire Banana Boats Recipe Easy Perfect S’mores Dessert

campfire banana boats - featured image

A simple and nostalgic campfire dessert featuring ripe bananas stuffed with chocolate and marshmallows, wrapped in foil, and cooked until gooey and melty. Perfect for outdoor gatherings or an easy indoor treat.

Ingredients

  • Ripe but firm medium-sized bananas
  • Chocolate bars or chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate preferred)
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil
  • Optional: peanut butter or almond butter
  • Optional: chopped walnuts or extra chocolate chips
  • Optional: flavored chocolates like dark chocolate with sea salt or white chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat campfire embers or grill to medium heat.
  2. Slice each banana lengthwise down the peel about 3/4 of the way through, creating a pocket without cutting all the way through.
  3. Stuff the banana pockets with chunks or chips of chocolate and a handful of mini marshmallows. Optionally add a spoonful of nut butter or chopped nuts.
  4. Wrap each stuffed banana tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil, sealing well to trap steam and heat.
  5. Place foil packets on hot campfire embers or grill grates and cook for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally with tongs to avoid burning.
  6. Carefully remove packets and let cool for 1-2 minutes. Unwrap foil and serve warm with a spoon.

Notes

Use bananas that are yellow with a few brown spots for best texture. Wrap foil packets snugly but leave some air space for steam circulation. Turn packets every 3-4 minutes to ensure even cooking. Mini marshmallows melt faster than jumbo ones. If cooking indoors, bake wrapped banana boats at 375°F (190°C) for about 15 minutes. Avoid frozen bananas as they become mushy when heated.
