A simple and festive green beer recipe perfect for celebrations like St. Patrick’s Day, combining light lager with green food coloring and optional lime juice for a crisp, refreshing drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 fl oz (355 ml) Light Lager or Pilsner Beer (e.g., Bud Light or Heineken)
  • 23 drops Green Food Coloring (natural vegetable-based preferred)
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Fresh Lime Juice (optional)
  • Ice Cubes (optional)
  • Lime Wedges or Mint Leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill your beer bottles or cans in the fridge for about 1 hour and chill glasses in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix 2-3 drops of green food coloring with 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of freshly squeezed lime juice. Stir gently until evenly mixed.
  3. Slowly pour 12 fl oz (355 ml) of chilled lager or pilsner into your glass at a slight angle to preserve carbonation, leaving about an inch of head space.
  4. Gently pour the green lime juice mixture into the beer and stir lightly with a spoon to spread the color without flattening the beer.
  5. Optionally, garnish with a lime wedge on the rim or a few fresh mint leaves.
  6. Serve immediately to enjoy the best fizz and vibrant color.

Notes

Use light lagers or pilsners for best color and flavor. Mix food coloring with lime juice before adding to beer to preserve carbonation. Chill beer and glasses well. Use food coloring sparingly to avoid bitterness. Stir gently instead of shaking. Prepare green mixture ahead for serving a crowd.
