A quick and easy homemade version of Sonic’s iconic Cherry Limeade, combining fresh lime juice, maraschino cherry syrup, and sparkling water for a refreshing summer drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Juice of 2 large fresh limes (about 2 tablespoons or 30 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) maraschino cherry syrup
  • 46 maraschino cherries for garnish
  • 12 tablespoons (1530 ml) simple syrup (optional)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) chilled club soda or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes, plenty

Instructions

  1. Roll 2 large limes on the counter to soften, then cut in half and juice them to get about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of fresh lime juice, removing seeds.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine 2 tablespoons (30 ml) maraschino cherry syrup with 1 to 2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) simple syrup, stirring gently to blend. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  3. Add the fresh lime juice to the syrup mixture and stir well until a bright pinkish hue forms.
  4. Fill a tall serving glass with plenty of ice cubes.
  5. Slowly pour 1 cup (240 ml) chilled club soda or sparkling water over the ice and syrup mixture. Stir gently with a long spoon to mix without losing fizz.
  6. Garnish with 4-6 maraschino cherries and optionally a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh lime juice for best flavor; bottled lime juice tastes flat. Use good-quality maraschino cherry syrup for authentic taste. Stir gently to preserve fizz. Syrup mixture can be prepared ahead and refrigerated up to 3 days. Adjust sweetness by varying simple syrup or cherry syrup. For a frozen version, blend with ice. Optional adult twist: add vodka or white rum.
