Irresistible Maple Old Fashioned Recipe with Smoked Orange

maple old fashioned - featured image

A perfectly balanced cocktail featuring the subtle sweetness of maple syrup, bold bourbon, and a smoky orange essence for a sophisticated and indulgent drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 orange peel
  • Large ice cubes or a single sphere

Instructions

  1. Prepare the orange peel garnish by carefully removing a strip of orange peel with a peeler, avoiding the white pith. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine 2 oz bourbon, 1/2 oz maple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
  3. Add a large ice cube to the mixing glass and stir the mixture with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds to chill and slightly dilute the drink.
  4. Strain the cocktail into a serving glass over a large ice cube or sphere.
  5. Hold the orange peel with tongs and gently heat its surface using a kitchen torch or lighter until it starts to caramelize and release a smoky aroma.
  6. Express the warmed peel over the cocktail by squeezing it gently to release its oils. Rub the peel around the rim of the glass for extra flavor, then drop it into the drink as a garnish.
