A quick and refreshing summer drink combining the juicy sweetness of watermelon with the crisp zing of fresh mint and lime, perfect for hydration and warm-weather gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed and seeds removed
  • 1520 fresh mint leaves, washed and gently bruised
  • Juice of 12 limes (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 12 tablespoons honey, agave syrup, or simple syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups (approximately 600 grams) of watermelon into cubes, removing any seeds.
  2. Gently muddle or bruise 15-20 fresh mint leaves to release their oils by pressing lightly with your fingers or the back of a spoon for 1 minute.
  3. Add the cubed watermelon, bruised mint leaves, juice of 1-2 limes (about 30 ml), and 2 cups (480 ml) of cold water into your blender.
  4. Blend on high speed for about 30-45 seconds until smooth.
  5. Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing the pulp to extract as much juice as possible (optional).
  6. Stir in 1-2 tablespoons of honey, agave syrup, or simple syrup, depending on sweetness preference. Taste and adjust as needed.
  7. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and cool thoroughly.
  8. Serve over ice cubes with a sprig of fresh mint or a lime wedge for garnish.

Notes

Use ripe seedless watermelon for best sweetness. Avoid over-muddling mint to prevent bitterness. Straining is optional for a smoother texture. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. For a sparkling twist, replace cold water with sparkling water just before serving. Sweetener can be omitted if watermelon is very sweet.
