easy mojito recipe - featured image

A crisp, refreshing classic mojito cocktail that is quick and easy to make, perfect for summer gatherings and casual cocktail hours.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves per drink
  • 12 fresh limes per drink (juice and wedges for garnish)
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar per drink (or simple syrup)
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) white rum per drink
  • 4 ounces (120 ml) chilled soda water per drink
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: splash of lime zest or sprig of mint for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glass: Start with a clean highball glass and add the fresh mint leaves (about 10-12 leaves). Gently muddle them using your muddler or spoonβ€”press just enough to release the oils without tearing the leaves (about 20-30 seconds).
  2. Add the sugar: Sprinkle in 2 teaspoons (about 8 grams) of granulated sugar right over the muddled mint.
  3. Squeeze in the lime juice: Cut 1-2 fresh limes and squeeze about 1 ounce (30 ml) of juice into the glass. Toss in a lime wedge or two for garnish. Stir gently to combine the mint, sugar, and lime juice (about 20 seconds).
  4. Pour in the rum: Measure and add 2 ounces (60 ml) of white rum. Stir gently to blend flavors without breaking the mint leaves.
  5. Add ice and soda water: Fill the glass with plenty of ice cubes, then top off with about 4 ounces (120 ml) of chilled soda water. Stir lightly once more to mix.
  6. Garnish and serve: Add a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.

Notes

Muddle mint gently to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Assemble just before serving to keep soda water fizzy and mint fresh. Chill glass beforehand for extra refreshment. Large ice cubes melt slower and keep drink flavorful longer. Variations include berry mojito, frozen mojito, herbal mojito, non-alcoholic version, and low-sugar options.
