A quick and delicious layered dip snack packed in individual jars, perfect for busy days or casual gatherings. This recipe combines creamy beans, zesty guacamole, sour cream, and more in a portable, fun-to-eat format.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup refried beans (original style recommended)
  • ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt as substitute)
  • ½ cup guacamole (freshly made or store-bought; ripe avocados mashed with lime juice and salt)
  • ½ cup salsa (medium-spicy, chunky tomato-based preferred)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • ¼ cup diced tomatoes (drained)
  • 2 tablespoons sliced black olives (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Mini mason jars or small clear containers for layering and serving

Instructions

  1. Rinse and chop the green onions and cilantro. Dice the tomatoes and drain any excess liquid. Mash the avocado with lime juice and a pinch of salt to make guacamole. Set aside.
  2. Spoon about 2 tablespoons (30g) of refried beans into the bottom of each jar. Smooth the surface gently with the back of a spoon to create an even base.
  3. Carefully spoon 1 tablespoon (15g) of sour cream or Greek yogurt over the beans, adding it gently to keep layers distinct.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon (15g) of guacamole on top of the sour cream, spreading evenly.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon (15g) of salsa over the guacamole. Drain salsa slightly if watery.
  6. Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon (15g) of shredded cheddar cheese over the salsa.
  7. Layer a mix of diced tomatoes and chopped green onions (about 1 tablespoon total) for freshness and crunch.
  8. Top each jar with a sprinkle of sliced black olives and fresh cilantro.
  9. Seal the jars with lids and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to let flavors meld.

Notes

To keep layers distinct, spread each layer gently with the back of a spoon or small spatula. Drain watery ingredients like salsa and diced tomatoes to avoid soggy layers. Prepare guacamole fresh before layering to maintain bright color. Assemble tomatoes and green onions just before serving if prepping ahead. Store jars sealed in the fridge for 2-3 days; avoid freezing. Reheating is not recommended.
