A quick and easy homemade brownie recipe that delivers rich, fudgy texture and deep chocolate flavor in under 30 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights, potlucks, or any occasion craving a comforting chocolate treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal, or grease it well with butter.
  2. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl for about 45 seconds or on the stovetop in a small saucepan. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and melted butter until well combined and shiny.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula. Stir just until combined to avoid overmixing.
  7. If using add-ins like chopped walnuts or chocolate chips, fold them in now.
  8. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Start checking around 20 minutes by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter.
  10. Remove from oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  11. Use the parchment overhang to lift the brownies out easily. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies fudgy. Let brownies cool completely before slicing for best texture. Use room temperature eggs for smoother batter. If batter is too dry, add 1 tablespoon milk to loosen. For gluten-free, substitute almond flour. For vegan, use flax eggs and dairy-free butter.
