A quick and simple sangria recipe combining fresh citrus, berries, red wine, and a splash of brandy for a refreshing summer drink with a perfect fizz.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 750 ml (25 fl oz) dry fruity red wine (e.g., Spanish Tempranillo or Grenache)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) brandy
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water or club soda, chilled
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 large lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (150 grams) fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries)
  • 1 medium apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) simple syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes as needed

Instructions

  1. Wash all fruit thoroughly. Thinly slice the orange, lemon, and lime into rounds. Core and thinly slice the apple. Hull and halve the strawberries if using.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, and fresh orange juice. Stir gently to blend.
  3. Add all the sliced fruit and berries to the pitcher. Stir gently to mix evenly.
  4. Add simple syrup if desired for extra sweetness and stir. Taste first to adjust sweetness.
  5. Cover the pitcher and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably 3-4 hours for best flavor.
  6. Just before serving, add the chilled sparkling water or club soda to the pitcher and stir gently.
  7. Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the sangria over. Ensure each glass has a good mix of fruit slices.

Notes

Freeze some fruit pieces to use as ice cubes to avoid watering down the sangria. Add sparkling water last to keep the fizz. Taste before adding simple syrup as the fruit and wine may be sweet enough. For a white sangria, swap red wine for Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio and use peaches and green grapes instead of berries.
