Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper or foil, leaving a slight overhang on the sides.
  2. Place chocolate chips and softened unsalted butter into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on medium power for 30 seconds, stir well, then repeat in 20-second intervals stirring in between until smooth and fully melted (about 1.5 to 2 minutes). Alternatively, melt gently using a double boiler.
  3. Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and stir until the mixture is glossy and completely combined (about 1 minute).
  4. Mix in vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt, stirring well to incorporate.
  5. Fold in any optional mix-ins like nuts, marshmallows, or spices gently.
  6. Scrape the fudge mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Tap the pan lightly on the counter to settle the fudge and remove air bubbles.
  7. Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to 4 hours until firm. For best results, chill overnight.
  8. Use a sharp knife to cut the fudge into bite-sized squares, wiping the knife clean between cuts.
