Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup (or maple syrup for a natural alternative)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, roughly chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your pie dish lightly with butter or non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. Prepare the brownie base: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until fully combined. Don’t overmix—just until there are no streaks of flour.
  4. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pie dish and spread evenly. Set aside while you prepare the pecan pie topping.
  5. Make the pecan pie topping: In a clean mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Stir in the chopped pecans.
  6. Gently pour the pecan mixture over the brownie batter, spreading it evenly. Don’t worry if it looks a little thin—it will thicken and caramelize beautifully as it bakes.
  7. Place the pie dish on a baking sheet to catch any spills and bake for 45-50 minutes. The brownie layer should be set, and the pecan topping should be golden and slightly puffed.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pie cool completely before slicing. The filling will set as it cools, so be patient!

Notes

[‘Use room temperature eggs for better incorporation.’, ‘Avoid overmixing the brownie batter to prevent a dense texture.’, ‘Keep an eye on the baking time to avoid overbaking.’, ‘Let the pie cool completely before slicing to allow the filling to set.’, ‘Use a pie shield or foil if the edges of the crust brown too quickly.’]
