A quick and easy appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with herb butter and thinly sliced radishes for a fresh, crunchy bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf baguette or rustic bread, sliced into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) pieces
  • 4 tablespoons (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 bunch (about 810) fresh radishes, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped mixed fresh herbs (such as parsley, chives, and dill)
  • Pinch of sea salt (coarse preferred)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Lemon zest from 1 lemon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) pieces and arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. Toast the bread for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp.
  4. While the bread toasts, soften the butter in a small bowl and mix in the chopped fresh herbs, a pinch of sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, and optional lemon zest.
  5. Thinly slice the radishes about 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) thick using a sharp knife or mandoline.
  6. Once the bread is toasted, immediately spread a generous layer of the herb butter on each slice.
  7. Top each crostini with a few radish slices, overlapping slightly for presentation.
  8. Finish with a sprinkle of coarse sea salt and a crack of fresh black pepper.
  9. Serve immediately while the bread is still crisp and radishes maintain their crunch.

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute butter with a dairy-free spread or olive oil and use vegan-friendly bread. To add smoky flavor, toast bread in a cast-iron skillet with butter instead of oven. Prepare bread ahead and store airtight; add butter and radishes just before serving to keep freshness.
