A quick and easy homemade version of the classic minty Shamrock Shake, combining creamy vanilla ice cream, whole milk, peppermint extract, and fresh mint for a refreshing treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • A small handful of fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
  • A few drops of green food coloring (optional)
  • 12 teaspoons granulated sugar (optional)
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Maraschino cherry (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the fresh mint leaves and finely chop them to release their flavor.
  2. In a blender, combine 2 cups of vanilla ice cream, 1 cup of whole milk, 1 teaspoon peppermint extract, chopped fresh mint, 1-2 teaspoons granulated sugar if desired, and a few drops of green food coloring if using.
  3. Blend on medium speed for 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth and creamy. Adjust thickness by adding more milk or ice cream as needed.
  4. Taste and adjust mint flavor or sweetness by adding more peppermint extract or sugar, then blend briefly again.
  5. Pour the shake into tall glasses and top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry if desired.
  6. Serve immediately while cold and creamy. Optionally garnish with a fresh mint leaf.

Notes

For a thicker shake, freeze the milk for 30 minutes before blending or add crushed ice. Be cautious with peppermint extract as too much can make the shake bitter. Green food coloring is optional; natural alternatives like spirulina powder or fresh mint can be used for color. For dairy-free versions, substitute with plant-based milk and ice cream.
